Welcome to MWWA

The Minnesota Water Well Association (MWWA) was established in 1923 to act as a representative of the well drilling industry throughout the State of Minnesota. The association has shown steady growth and gained respect over the years. MWWA, now more than 200 members strong (nearly 70% of all licensed drillers in the State), is recognized as a thoughtful and responsible representative of the ground water industry.

We are an NGWA affiliate state.

In 2001 MWWA was instrumental in passing into Law Chapter 188 of H.F. 708 which was an act relating to motor vehicles; clarifying exemption from registration taxes for certain well drilling machines, pump hoists and other equipment.

In a letter received by the MWWA office dated March 9, 2007 from Minnesota OSHA Compliance and the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry the following is stated:

Minnesota Statutes 182.6525 is derived from the American national Standard ASME B30.5-2004, which identifies several types of equipment that are not applicable to the B30.5 standard since they are not considered mobile or locomotive cranes. Among those types of equipment are well-drilling derricks and truck body hoists. Therefore, as identified within the scope of B30.5, Minnesota Statutes 182.6525 will not apply to well-drilling derricks and truck body hoists. However, if well drilling equipment or pump repair equipment is attached to the upper boom-point of a mobile crane that has the lifting capacity of 5 tons or more, and is being operated on a construction site, then the operator will be required to have valid certification.

If you have any questions regarding the Crane Law, please contact Dave at the MWWA office.
