Minnesota Weight Restrictions on 2 Bridges

Officials from the Minnesota Department of Transportation put in place weight restrictions on two Highway169 bridges over Elm Creek just north of Hayden Lake Road in Champlin, MN. The restrictions are in place "to minimize deterioration from heavy loads and to keep the bridges functioning effectively and safely until they can be repaired or replaced," officials said. Detours are in place for non-combination trucks weighing more than 16 tons as well as combination truck-trailers upward of 26 tons.

93rd Annual MWWA Convention

On behalf of the MWWA Board of Directors I want to thank everyone who attended the 93rd Annual Trade Show and Convention on January 26-28, 2015.

Held this year in Bloomington, MN at the DoubleTree by Hilton, groundwater professionals from around the state gathered to obtain their continuing education from the MDH and DNR as well as learn the latest information on Variable Frequency Drives, Well Development & System sizing.  There were classes on Exit Planning, updates to the County Well Index and the most recent updates from Gopher State One Call as well.  Our special thanks to the following speakers:  Rich Pawlicki, A.Y. McDonald Co.; Stephen Schmitt, Bilfinger Water Technologies; Todd Olmshenk, Mulcahy Co.; Dyanne Ross-Hansen, Exit Planning Strategies LLC.; Emily Bauer, MGS; Stephen Anderson, Merrill Manufacturing; MDH Staff and DNR Staff.

Other highlights of the convention included three of our State Representatives stopping by the banquet and answering questions from the members.  Thank you to our Lobbyist Bruce Kleven and Executive Director Dave Schulenberg for arranging this.  Having Rep. McNamara, Rep. Anderson and Rep. Torkelson there was a very nice surprise for the members and one of the highlights of the entire event.

I want to thank our Sponsors: Hole Products, NDS Drilling Supply, Co.  Pentair Water, Grundfos Pumps, Preferred Pump and Equipment LP, Victory Steel Products, First Supply LLC, Wyo-Ben, Atlantic Screens, Flexcon Industries, Columbia Pipe, Goodin Co. and Shakti Pumps.  Be sure to check them out below!   A big thank you goes out to all the vendors who participated in this year’s event.  You help make the show!

Congratulations need to go out to the newest recipient of the Dave Williams Scholarship, Timothy Hinrichs.  Tim is a senior at Zumbrota-Mazeppa High School and plans on attending St. Cloud Technical and Community College to study geology, water system design and water environment technology.  We wish you the best of luck Tim!!!  This is the 10th scholarship given since 2006.

Again, thank you to those that attended and supported the MWWA.  We remain strong because of members like you, and to get stronger we need to continue to reach out to those that are not.  See you all in 2016 in St. Cloud!

Dave Schulenberg
Executive Director
